英語面接の準備－質問への回答

英語ネイティブでない限り、英語面接のほうが日本語の面接よりも質問にうまく回答できません。そこで、過去の面接（日本語も含む）で聞かれた質問について、英語でどう答えるかを復習することが、よい準備になります。

私は転職活動中に以下のような想定問答を、英語で準備しました。

1．自己紹介（職務経歴）

• Could you tell me about yourself and describe your backbround in brief?
• Could you introduce yourself and your career history in brief?
• 職歴が多い場合、直近3社または直近10年程度に絞るのがコツ
• それより古い職歴は、Q&Aで補い、ダラダラ話す印象を避ける
• 特に、失敗したプロジェクトの話し方は、要注意❕
• 単に失敗に終わったと話すのは、話している自分の自信を削ぐのでダメ✖
• 失敗の中で会社にどう貢献したか、そこから何を得たかを話す

2．志望動機

• What brings you here?
• Why are you interested in us?
• 以下の2つの視点を明確にすると説得力が出る
• 会社選び・仕事選びの判断基準（どんな仕事に就きたいか）
• 応募した会社の特徴・イメージ

3．将来展望

• What are your career ambitions?
• What value do you think you can bring us?
• How do you think you can contribute to us?

4．自分自身の強みと弱み

• What are your strengthes and weaknesses?
• 強み
• 特に自分のスキルを表すキーワードを英語で書き出してみて、よりよい表現がないか調べておくと、いろんな質問に対応できて便利❣
• 弱み
• よくあるテクニックは、「強みの裏返しとなる苦手なこと」
• 筆者は、正直に「ミスがちなこと（自分が担当したら同僚が困るため）」

5．他社への応募状況

• Are you applying for other jobs?
• Yesなら、次の質問の答えも合わせて用意したほうがよい
• If you were offered a position at both us and another company, which would you choose?
• 特に準備すべきは、本命ではない会社への回答
• 回答例：After interviewing with both companies, I intend to choose the one that can better utilize my skills and expertise.

6．希望年収と現行年収

• What are your salary expectations and what is your current salary?
• 回答例：I’m looking at an annual salary around ____yen based on my skills and experience, on the current industry rates and my current annual salary of about  ____yen.
